Date: 12/20/12, Last updated 12/23/12 ~Demetria Highwater Unto the Realms, and any who would seek the destruction of Bedlam, This is the second missive and second part of a field guide to fighting Bedlam. Corrections and further information are always welcome. I expect some of this information to be out of date as new types of bois, and new weaknesses are discovered. I have tried to note unconfirmed material in Italics, but until recently seer magic about bedlam was very difficult, such much of this remains truly unconfirmed. This is not a complete guide. If you have encountered a Bois, not listed here, please get in touch with me, and tell me everything you know about it. With that said, many of these bois have been seen and defeated on the field, and this guide will try to show you how to do it. ^^^ Universal Weaknesses (may be overridden by powerful Bois) Silver weapons have been effective against some Bois, at some times. Silver as a pure metal seems to have a countering effect against Bedlam. Silver was one of the ways that Bedlam was originally sealed away Weapons of Light are considered 'Armor-Piercing' against Bedlam Bois BoisBane is considered Armor-Piercing-Poison' Against Bedlam Bois. ^^^Common Bois Appearance: Inky blackness in a vaguely humanoid shape. Special Immunities: None Special Weaknesses: None Special Abilities: 'Posses Corpse' Some Bois have the ability to possess a body and animate it to fight for them. If this happens, attack it. It will be very hard to kill, but it is possible. Killing the newly animated body seems to leave no lingering taint of Bedlam. Notes: None Appearance: Bright Green Teeth and White Eyebrows Special Immunities: Normal Weapons Special Weaknesses: Surround it with 'Light' spells to effect it. Special Abilities: Swings 'Black Sickness' Notes: Those affected with Black Sickness (either via a Blackwalker or from having a Black Spot in their spellbook) can have it cured only after it has manifested in them at least once. As soon as it has, a cure can be obtained by going to a priest or priestess of a god you follow or believe in and atoning to cleanse your soul. This is a difficult process and requires many months to complete. Appearance: Circular Maw with White Pointed Teeth, White Eyebrows Special Immunities: Normal Weapons Special Weaknesses: 'Soul Channel' -You must strike with a silver weapon while having Hematite directly touching either the weapon or your body. -Use only one piece of Hematite at a time. -Once a piece of hematite contains a soul, you must swap out for a new one. -The hematite can be cleansed with a Call the Soul or by letting it drain over the course of one lunar cycle. Special Abilities: Unknown Notes: None ^^^ Uncommon Bois Appearance: Large Serpent that appears to ride the wind Special Immunities: Unknown Special Weaknesses: Unknown Special Abilities: Unknown Notes: This is not a Bois in the conventional way. It is more a promise of Bois to come. The arrival of a Serpens Postremo virtually guarantees a large infestation of Bois. Appearance: Normal Person until it manifests, then looks like a Bois Special Immunities: Unknown Special Weaknesses: Unknown Special Abilities: -'Darkness Consumes' Can destroy an item or creature completely, possibly sending it to Bedlam. -Consumes the memories and thoughts of its host. Notes: People who have become Skinwalkers generally do not know that they are until it suddenly manifests in them and they become a Bois. The trigger for manifestation is unknown. Appearance: Large Purple 'Brain' Special Immunities: None Special Weaknesses: None Special Abilities: 'Dominate Others' This Bois can cause adventures to attack each other. How it does this and who it effects is not very well understood. Those affected seem to all share black sickness, but others have also been affected. Notes: Intelligent Appearance: Always appears standing inside a blob of Bedlam. Surrounded by white 'mist' Special Immunities: None Special Weaknesses: Remove from Bedlam, and surround with Light Special Abilities: Regeneration while inside Bedlam. 'Black Song' While the Vox Cantus is on the field Bedlam is strengthened in some way. [More information needed] Notes: None ^^^ Rare & Unique Bois It should be noted that all the following Bois listed are extremely powerful and ludicrously dangerous. Nearly all are intelligent and will use tactics to gain the upper hand. Sometimes retreat is the best option. Appearance: Looks like Sir Zula... but a Bois. Special Immunities: Normal Weapons Special Weaknesses: Light Gun Special Abilities: Very Fast Regeneration Notes: -"To defeat the ZulaBois you must surround him with light; then pierce him with light." -ZulaBois is ONLY effected by the Light Gun, then 'Surrounded with light' by wielded light spells Appearance: Looks like Sir Zula... but a Bois. Special Immunities: Normal Weapons Special Weaknesses: Light Gun Special Abilities: Very Fast Regeneration Notes: -"To defeat the ZulaBois you must surround him with light; then pierce him with light." This Bois comes from an alternate future which may have spilled onto our timeline. It's continued presence in our time stream is unconfirmed. -ZulaBois is ONLY effected by the Light Gun, then 'Surrounded with light' by wielded light spells -This ZulaBois was destroyed at Yule 1012 by the Stag of Morrow. Appearance: Looks like High Lord Temorse, but a Bois. Special Immunities: Normal Weapons Special Weaknesses: Unknown Special Abilities: Very Fast Regeneration Notes: -I have very limited information on the TemorseBois. I would hope the same tactics used on ZulaBois would be effective against TemorseBois, but that remains unconfirmed. -The TemorseBois seemed to be affected by normal weapons, but regenerated very fast. The Light gun did not seem to work. Appearance: Thin Man in a white tunic carrying a large hammer Special Immunities: Normal Weapons Special Weaknesses: Unknown Special Abilities: 'Bane' This Bois wield's Wayland's hammer which can destroy nearly anything. Notes: -The hammer is not part of the Bois. -This Bois has been rumored to speak. -DO NOT PICK UP THE HAMMER. -If you must, use only the thickest leather. Appearance: A monster the size of a tavern Special Immunities: Everything Special Weaknesses: A group of adventurers crawling down its throat and ripping out its heart.
