Origin Story
Author: Unknown
Long ago, there was a family with really bad luck. They were the Sanders family. Tragedy and disaster followed them wherever they went, no matter how far they traveled. War, famine, natural disaster, disease. The family tried to escape Tymora's wrath, but it was no use. While wandering the woods after losing yet another home, they came across a clearing.
Place/Gathering Discovered: Sanctuary Library Date: 09/08/1022 Transcribed by: Page Margaret August In the clearing were 12 beings surrounding what looked like a crack in space. Humanoid in nature but smaller than humans, and with skin of varying colors, these beings looked worn down, and seemed lost. As the crack faded, the beings turned their attention to the Sanders family. One of these beings stepped forward, their weariness replaced by a kindness in their eyes. They introduce themselves as Pru, the Guardian of protection, and begin to converse with the Sanders family. Heartbroken by the plight of the Sanders, and reeling from the loss of their own plane, Pru offers the Sanders family a sanctuary. In return, they must bind themselves to Pru in order to uphold their protection, and find 11 others to bind themselves to the other guardians. These families or individuals will become the Elders, the equivalent of a mortal avatar to our gods. They would be worshipped by the townspeople, and through this worship and the Guardians own protection the town would grow in strength and power. The Sanders family went out and found others who they believed upheld the aspects of the Guardians. When the 12 families were gathered, they met in the clearing where the Guardians first appeared. Each family bound themselves to a Guardian, and a tree was planted in the middle of the clearing, where the crack in spacetime once stood. With their powers combined, led by Guardian Pru, a strong barrier went up around the land, and it slowly began to separate itself from the rest of the realms. This barrier allowed for only those who were in great need of Sanctuary, or who were shown the way, to access the land. As the town grew in strength, so did the protection, and bit by bit Sanctuary began to separate from our reality, until one day it was a different plane entirely. The tree at its heart grew, and her roots spread throughout the realms, keeping the connection and creating pathways for those in need. Here, Sanctuary still stands. A place of hope and peace for those looking to escape the hardships live has handed to them. Retired war veterans and stranded orphans alike are able to find their home, their Sanctuary. And may it always stand strong and true. |
