Before I Turn UnDead...

You're the only one who really knew me at all.

She stands serenely by my head
I cannot fathom; am I dead?
For my body is cold and shivering still
If not dead, then per-haps ill

If not for her, I'd still be there
She lifts my head and smooths my hair
A sword plunged into my chest; I see
her lips moving... to heal me?

...My blood, it ran out hours ago
A simple peace I should have known
And Death comes, but not for me
It lifts my body most tenderly

"Follow me, young faithful one
There's work to do, I'll have some fun."
My legs, my arms, they do obey
My heart's not pumping, I'm not 'okay'.

Before my head gives way to fog
I turn to her, and give a nod
And curse her and the day of birth,
my own true love... she just smirks.

You're the only one who really knew me at all.
